Emo Hair Cuts
A no nonsense guide to the pros and cons
Whether people like it or not emo is big right now and anybody who is anybody is walking, talking and
dressing emo. All the emo guys at school are hot and they're hanging out with the equally hot emo girls.
So, you are thinking of becoming an emo, but are not yet 100% sure about the hair. It seems a bit
drastic doesn't it?
Here's our guide to the pros and cons of reaching for the scissors and opting for one of those crucial emo haircuts.
The Pros And Cons of an Emo Haircut
Emo Haircut Pros
-
If your hair is currently dry, damaged, unfashionable or resembling an overgrown bush, an emo haircut
could be just what you need. What better way to deal with that mop on top of your head but to cut it
all off. Heck, if it's really bad you can just shave the whole lot (remember to leave a bang somewhere
though for asymmetrical purposes). Many emo guys (and some girls) do shave their heads, resulting in
an easy to manage cut that will earn you more kudos than your previous resemblance to Tina Turner.
-
If you hair is naturally curly, opting for one of many different emo haircuts could be an ideal
solution. Picture this: at the moment you take a great deal of stick for having curly hair,
especially if you're a boy. Girls can straighten their hair and will get countless compliments when
they do. Boys however, will get called vain, a poser or gay. It is, however, expected of emo guys
to straighten their hair… straight hair is a necessity. So if you hate your curly hair try out an emo
cut, one of the rare occasions when you can straighten your hair and still stay cool.
-
Emo hair is greasy. If you're a little on the lazy side or hate washing your hair this could be
the haircut for you. In order to keep all those bangs, spikes and tufts in place emo boys and
girls use immense amounts of gel and wax. The end result? Dirty looking hair. A great excuse
to stay out at the mal with your mates instead of going home for a shower!
Emo Haircut Cons
-
If your hair is a beautiful specimen worthy of a L'Oreal commercial you may want to think twice.
All the dying, straightening and tugging at your hair is bound to damage those luscious locks and in
the event you decide emo isn't for you after all, you could just be left with hair which resembles
a bird's nest.
-
Asymmetrical is the buzzword. Emo haircuts are uneven and in order to achieve the desired look you
will need to chop into your hair in a rather dramatic way. This is all fine for as long as you wish
to remain emo but if you decide you preferred the prep look after all, you will not be able to grow
your locks back overnight. This may also be a problem if you're invited to tea at Great Aunt Mable's.
That's the downside to emo haircuts, once you've created the required look, you're stuck with it for
at least six months!
