I love the music of My Chemical Romance, but there have been talks about the band leader Gerard Way denying emo as their style. I even read that he dismissed emo music as 'garbage'. Is this true? Is the band not emo?

MCR is a pretty hot band, and I really don't know if it matters if they are considered Emo or not. They make good music, that's what sets them apart. In any case, I consider them emo. I think the reason why Gerard is trying ti distance the band from the label is marketability. They want to sell albums and tickets, and the best way of doing that is not to pigeon-hole themselves with a label that some consider undesirable. It's all about the marketing!

That definitely is true. It's plain marketing. Also, with so many fingers pointing to MCR music as the primary influence why 13-year old Hannah Bond committed suicide, the band simply wanted to steer clear of this controversy. They can't sell albums as much as they did with parents refusing to buy their CDs for their kids or parents banning their music inside the house.

I love My Chemical Romance, but if they don't want to be associated with the emo lifestyle, then let them be. It does not mean that because they're not an emo band, emo kids can no longer appreciate their music. Although I still think MCR is emo, I don't care if they aren't. I still love their music.

i love mcr  , but i dont listen to songs because their 'emo' etc... i listen to it because i like that music. I agree with what others have posted in that they probably dont want to stereotype their pusic because of marketing

I LOVE My CHEM but i hate gerard way. He tries way to hard with all his died hair. I cant believe that he would snob off the main
group of people who would listen to his band. He is sooo gay even if he is married.
