I'm just curious. What is emo? What does it stand for, and how did it start? All I know is that emo kids wear so much black (including make-up), have so many piercings all over the body and have long straight hair with a dash of red or purple on it. Apart from the fashion, I'd like to understand what emo really is. Anyone care to explain?

I think emo came from a particular musical interest that carries heavy emotions (hence the name). Then from the music genre, it transcended into a whole new lifestyle, which is still rooted from the emotions carried by the people living the said lifestyle.
I could continue my talk here, but I don't want to appear too Wikipedia-ish....

EMO= whatever you want it to be, as long as it is along the eyes of not caring what everybody else does.
I think that it is stupid how a lot of emos try really hard, its like emo is a sense of being. stop trying

Well, I've been trying to learn what it actually means to be "emo". I guess I still don't quite get it. Funny thing is I sometimes get labeled as emo... even though I don't think I am emo. If I was, I would understand it, right? I just like to have fun and party. Does that mean I'm emo? I hate labels.
