Emo seems to come from two music genres: punk and grunge. In my opinion, it was punk that injected the style and art in emo, while grunge gave the emotional tone. What about you? Which of the two music types fits better into the music evolution that we now know as emo?

I'm not sure which fits better. What I'm sure of is that grunge music rocks and Nirvana rocks even more!!! I was born post-Nirvana, but I have a copy of their Nevermind album. They're definitely the best in grunge music!

Punk, most definitely! I mean, whoever thought that eyeliner on men's eyes would be the signature emo look for years to come? Punk started that fad! Plus, I think it's the look and style that made emo popular, and not its very serious emotional tones.

I vote for punk too. Personally, I never liked grunge music (except for the icon named Kurt Cobain). It's just too dark and depressing, to the point of suicide. I don't think music should encourage killing people, especially ending your own life. Despite the darkness and the depression, music should somehow show a glimmer of hope. I hope I'm making myself clear on that...

I really think it was Grunge more than Punk.
Punk was rebellion, mostly.

i think ist comes from punk and goth not punk and grunge, grunge isnt even a culture its just like baggy sloppy clothing *shudder*

Id say more grunge its a little darker punk is more...soft spoken at times
