This is a bit of a touchy subject for some but it bothers me when people say you're "Emo" just because you cut yourself. I haven't cut myself in over a year now and I'm 19, what people don't understand is the real reasons why a real Emo would cut themselves. In my point of view, cutting is the top coping strategy to help deal with depression, and it just makes me mad when people mock Emo's over cutting. What they have a hard time understanding is; We don't cut because we wanna die, we cut because we want to make the inner pain stop, know what I mean? I just wish people would learn to accept us for who we are.

I totally agree with you I haven't cut myself in a few mnths and when I did it was because I was under alot of stress and didn't know what to do I'm pretty "normal" people do something to deal with it I bet some of em do cut themselves but are too afraid to admit it

Well, a lot of people believe it makes you Emo when you cut yourself when it doesn't. Its just a coping strategy to deal with Depression and you're right, people probably do cut themselves but are afraid to admit it because they are usually scared that they would be forced to seek professional help.

thank you someone with the same thoughts most of the ppl i know do it for attention but there are a few select ones who do it for that reason. i think someone who goes around telling ppl or showing it off are just looking for attention. but that may just be me

The first time I cut myself was to see if I had the strength to end everything. Afterwards I felt calmer; it was easier to let everything out. All the built up tension went.
I cut less frequently now. When I do it's usually over a few days and then I'll be ok for months.
I never tell anyone that I do it. It's not about attention seeking; it's about coping.

When i first started cutting it was bc ppl told me i was a pussy and afraid of pain i had a whole lot of emotions bottled up inside of me and one day my brother made me so angery i went into a blind rage and cut myself.....i didnt do it a lot or frequently.....until recently depending on my day i do it almost everynight....while everyone is peacefully sound asleep..i cut and its hard to stop and the cuts gett deeper but i cant stop...

Well not exactly bc of it i just picked up the sharpest thing i could find bc in that blind rage at the front of my mind was the thought ppl think your a pussy bc you cant handle pain

I started cutting because of my history. I never intended to turn emo but it happened and I like it, though my family and town think I'm a freak but who cares express who you are. I still do cut from time to time I guess I've gotten addicted but I'm sure I haven't
